Book of blues

have you heard the news
what i read today in my book of blues
no mans leavin this earth till hes paid his dues
have you heard the news
what i read today in my book of blues

have you heard the news
what i read to day in my book of blues
hard enough to stomach let alone swallow
if heaven dont come then hell wont follow
have you heard the news
what i read today in my book of blues

have you heard the news
what i read today in my book of blues
cant nobody decide which lord jesus is boss
lost my soul to the devil in a game of ring toss
have you heard the news
what i read today in my book of blues

They gave old bobby guff
cuz he sold his sold his soul to the devil
They say hes boilin down in hell
like an old tea kettle
but dont be so quit to judge
you know youd do the same
you sad sacks live for wine women and fame

and the legend of jimi sure came to a sad end
chokin on his chunks prolly gaspin out for a friend
so sad he didnt go peaceful like the songs that he sung
i wonder if he still tasted nickel on his tongue

and johnny had it all the snarl and the strut
but new yorks a mean city and johnny needed a crutch
the dolls were doin fine
Heartbreakers headed for fame
till johnny boiled it in a spoon and shot it into his vein

Save the date for someone else.

oh baby yeah youre pretty
but the pretty ones are the deadliest kind
yeah youre pretty
all the pretty ones are out of their minds

you got them eyes and a chest workin for you baby
aint it a shame youre batshit crazy
you got a smile and a figure baby
when i met you i was thinkin maybe
now thanks to you im batshit crazy

oh baby yeah youre pretty
but the pretty ones are the deadliest kind
yeah yeah yeah yeah youre pretty
all the pretty ones are out of their minds

so youre thinkin that i aint what you want
so youre thinkin i aint somethin you can flaunt
so youre thinkin that this is it
guess what im thinkin youre full of shit

so dance the night away baby
you can dance alone
so dance the night away baby
im goin home

Rules to live by

1. Love your family and your friends, theyre the only ones who deserve it.
2. Dont spend too much time thinking about where eternity ends, you'll find that one out when you find it out.
3. Any man who says he's got the answers prolly just made the answers up about 2 minutes prior.
4. Religion is just one big field full of venomous snakes.
5. Do one good thing for yourself a day.
6. Don't go down without a fight, rock bottom hurts much less when at least you can say you tried. And if youre feisty as hell, youre much less likely to ever see rock bottom.
7. You got a heart, use it.
8. You got a brain, use it.
9. The past is the past, the present is the present and the future is the future. Know which one to let go of, which one to hold on to and which one to look forward to.
10. Enjoy yourself even when its a hard thing to do.
11. Keep ya head up.

a town called destiny

Id like to wander
down an old dusty road
to a town where no one knows my name
a town where i can grow old
the clouds always part
and sun shines through after
and gun fires replaced
with smiles and laughter
the rum flows like water
but its never needed
because everyone whos ever tried
has always succeeded
the willows dont hang down too low
and in the winter its never too cold
the wind doesnt sting
all year round the birds sing
its a place that ive yet to find
everyones friendly
and no one picks fights
just sit on the porch
and sing through summer nights
and radio still plays good songs
destiny oh destiny
when oh when will you ever find me
ive been calling you since the day i was born
and im starting to believe that youre gone
ive bought some maps
and ive asked around
but no one i know
has ever heard of this town
so i guess ill go
back to chicago
because its the closest thing
ive got to home
back there its too cold
and theres no willows
the birds still sing
but the wind always stings
and the radio plays nothing good

heres the list

Tore down the trees
planted your feet firmly in their place
Denied your own mortality
spit in the universes face
now the tables have turned
and youre the one that needs saving
because you dug yourself a hole
to lie in with denial and endless craving
Heres the list
i see your name and i see mine
Prayin for salvation
as we near the end of time
there used to be a line
there used to be a reason
But we committed crimes
and we've committed global treason
Stabbed your brother in the back
just to see if he would bleed
and when you found that he would
that violence became a need
now you take all thats not yours
and force your hatred to breed
Why do you beg for gods intervention
when it can be so easily done yourself?
Why do you beg his forgiveness
when youve created your own hell?
How do we sleep
with our own knives in our backs?

Remember when we used maps?

We're not lost or cynical
We're just honest with ourselves
We don't know forward or backward
We just know our way around hell

And when you come to a crossroads
You just sit still you don't choose a way to go
But I can't do that because I don't have the time
No matter which road I take
I know I'll be fine

A pleasure cruise on the flying dutchman

This vessels going steady forward
But steady forward just happens to be down
Sea water displaced the oxygen in our lungs
And clutched our successes
And prepared to drown
They'll tell this tale for ages to come
Bout our triumphs and failures
But when they utter our names
Oh they'll bite their tongues
Because they know were better off as fading memories

Dr. Pabst

12 beers down
12 more to go
before i erase all the progress you say ive made
i cant say i love you
but i can still say i care
and thats the hardest state of mind to wake up with everyday
its a hard realization
every realizations hard
you know its true
because i took my advice from you
"dont give up, just keep believing"
Its easier said than done
when you spend your life always leaving

Californee

Lets give this state a viking funeral
Set it ablaze and send it floating out to sea
Or we could just hold off till it finally sinks
But I dont think that i could wait that long
These people still havent come to terms
with their sudden mortality
but when it hits
and it hits quick
They'll sleep sound and underground
and california will be no more

Once in a blue moon

I spent the day in a blue moon haze
trying to forget the past few days
Writing the same song i wrote a thousand times before
but its new to you because youve never heard it before
Realizing any difference I could make
wouldnt make a difference
so for sanity's sake
i suppose ill stay indifferent
and if the sun comes up on monday
then its just as well
but if it stays dark all day
then i guess ive made a name in hell
theres a severe lack of wind in this place
and in the winter theres nothing to sting my face
but the reminiscent thoughts of apologies made
and memories i hoped to god would start to fade
I tried to make a list of things i would do differently
5 years and counting
and im still trying to convince myself that this isn't me

A Resume To Put In A Folder On A Desk In Hell

If im a bad person
but i can admit it to myself
am i still a bad person?
if i can sit still
and wait patiently
for something apocalyptic to happen
does it make me a good person?
if i get up before dawn
and im dead before dusk
does it make me a quitter?
if i drink to create illusion
and consider it reality
does it make it a crutch?
the sun will rise tomorrow
we know this as a fact
but if im not here to see it
you'll go on unaffected
if i cant cope with false reality
and find your pills too hollow to swallow
does it make me a heathen?
if i can hear whispers that never
left a lung
does it make me a vagrant?
the sun will set tomorrow night
we know this as a fact
but if my eyes are closed shut tight
you will move with no affection
you'll go on unaffected
goddamn this life is too hectic

Psalm Something Or Other-The Recorded Song

This was recorded a while ago in my apartment and I believe I forgot I was recording for a second. I was A little bit drunk and there is some drunken rambling in the beginning. psalm somethin or other.mp3

She Drew A Moustache On The Mona Lisa

The city whirled by the car window

The buildings reached toward the sky

like the arms of interred giants reaching

for sunlight

But its always nighttime in this city

Theres no such thing as lifesblood

Just substances that spill into the ocean

to be returned only at a predetermined date

flip the skyline and the smallest objects

will stand monolithic above the largest monuments

I know because ive seen her do it

ive seen her break down all preconceived notions

she took a chisel to everything ever set in stone

uncrossed the tees and erased all the dots above the eyes

simultaneously stripped it all down to the simplest form

and complicated it to perfection

The Recking Ball

theres no shortage of vagrants in this town

theyre on every corner since the sun went down

it disappeared last week

we aint seen it since

saw it go into the ocean

so we spose it mustve drowned

And the city does all it can to keep what little it had

but i erased the fine line between the good and the bad

just to see what happens

when folks decide for themselves

and i must say the results are very sad

the stars are out somewhere

somewhere far away from here

and i hope that you can see them

cuz the skies here sure aint clear

so i sit and play my mindgames

till the clouds decide to part

they dont plan on leaving

so im drinking by myself here in the dark

i was hoping id see you on a corner somewhere

always glancing out my window but youre never there

always looking toward the ocean

even though its the wrong coastline

Psalm Something Or Other

creepin round down late at night

only path lit by the full moonlight

hangin round with the cemetery slaves

dancin in and out of the open graves

the preachers down he wants to save all the people

the preachers down he wants to hang em from the steeple

told me cmere boy have ya heard the news

cmon down i got salvation for you

i told him

first i prayed then i sold my soul

everybody else was dead and i was just gettin old

he told me boy you best prepare for the end of days

fire and brimstone waits if you dont change your ways

i told him i aint concerned i done all i can

and i aint got a soul to belong to no man

i told him first i prayed then i sold my soul

everybody else was already in the hole

told him i ran into the devil in an alleyway

said hello young sir i got an offer to make

told me all that is good in the world could be mine

all i had to do was sign the dotted line

first i prayed then i sold my soul

youre all dead

me? im just gettin old

Golden Age Of Sin

Ive found that graveyard charm ive been digging for
in a pool of blood on the bathroom floor
someone called your shot
it was a shot to the head
someone called your shot
and the streets ran red

and we all sang so sweet
the angels mustve turned their halos in
sayin "we dont stand a chance this is the golden age of sin"
once the service was over and the organ piped down
we all raised our glasses to a night on the town
im better off and ive got you to thank
you never said what you wanted on your headstone
so we just left it blank

forgive and forget
well at least your forgotten
ive got you deeply interred
in my memories and thoughts and
i dig you up each night
bring you back to life
and do it all over again
